What happened in Poland?

I would like to explain, what is going on in Poland according to my best knowledge.

Inhabitants of Poland love their fictional national mythology. One of a plethora of such myths is a myth that Poland was the first country of Warsaw Pact, first postsoviet state to abolish soviet occupation. This is a national myth, a fake news that many Poles succeded to sell in Western Europe.

In fact, if we carefully check the records of modern history, Poland was exactly the last country to do so. Even Albania held its first free elections earlier. Exact source data are visualised below my letter. Of course, there were some elections in 1989 in Poland, that brought some small, allegedly non-communist minority to the parliament, but the fully free elections came as the last ones in the whole Eastern part of the continent. This is mostly forgotten or deliberatelly censored.

Poland was also the last country of the whole Soviet occupation zone to introduce a more democratic constitution. It occured even later than in Ukraine. All countries adopted new constitutions, Poland did it as the last postsoviet country to do so. Poland is and was a lame duck of democracy in Europe. It is a fact. We should check facts and distinguish them from public relations paid content- paid fake news that are so often sold to public in mass media.

It is no wonder that the freshest and newest democracy in Europe is the first to be abolished in favour of one-party state. In a month the electoral system will come under the influence of the ruling party- as the head of the Supreme Court that accepts the election results will be changed and the Supreme Court will be nominatrd by and fully dependent of the dominant party. Polish electoral system is ommitted from, not protected by constitution and of course not included in Polish faulty constitution. It in fact means that free elections are not granted in Poland and most probably such free elections will not occur any more.

I am not from the old generation of Poles. I am a relatively young person. I spoke with many people, like judges and politicians on this issue. I think that they do not understand how the system of checks and balances that creates a democracy, works. I have even a problem to translate the phrase "checks and balances" into Polish as such an expression and such term is clearly and obviously missing from our language. Even if i tried to explain it, the Polish language, as I know it since birth, does not have any term equivalent to the phrase "checks and balances". I suppose that this important feature of democracy, in fact the very essence and clue of its functioning, was definitely lost in translation and never fully understood or even properly translated- and I suppose to know the situation given my longtime work as the chief editor of Polish parliamentary newspaper Gazeta Poselska. I also happen to translate simultaneously from time to time and I think that I understand the limitations of Polish language.

From my point of view, the democracy in Poland was never introduced, as any elements of the checks and balance system do not exist anymore now and I am not sure if they ever existed given the unbelievable ease with which the most recent second systemic transformation took place.
