10 million Euro subsidy to airlines willing to fly 400-km long distance 10 times weekly. Tender announced.

Polish authorities announced today tendering documents for airlines. There is a plan to subsidize the domestic route Zielona Gora- Warszawa with over 10-million Euro subsidies for willing airlines from Europe. Airlines can serve any connection from Warsaw with stop- over in Zielona Góra or just offer direct flights between the cities.

The route is served daily since June 1977, however it used to be served twice daily in both directions, and recently the service was reduced to only one connection daily. There is a reqirement to serve 10 connections weekly on the route.

The route has a capacity for low- cost airlines and could be developed. Railways charge approx. 30 Euro for the route, and there is still a room for low- cost airlines. Sprintair currently serves the route with limited service (only one morning flight Zielona Góra- Warsaw and one returning flight Warsaw- Zielona Gora in the evening). 

There is demand for low-cost service on the route. The Sprintair airline rarely reduced prices to 99 PLN (22 Euro) for this route, and such prices attracted local passengers. However, there never was a price war with railways on that particular route, Such war could be beneficial for passengers, if the airlines would greatly reduce the prices for the Warsaw- Zielona Góra route.
